St. Patrick’s Day in Hilton Head: A Grand Celebration!

There are lots of fun St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in the south from the infamous party in Savannah to the festival at Columbia’s Five Points. But here in Hilton Head we have our own little St. Patrick’s Day shindig that we think holds its own!

Hilton Head St. Patrick's DayThe main event is our St. Patrick’s Day parade, which is in its 30th year and has been named one of the Top 20 Tourism Events in the Southeast for the month of March. The parade, which will be held on St. Patrick’s Day starting at 3 p.m. will head down Pope Avenue from Coligny Plaza past Shipyard and ending at Park Plaza.

Designed to be family friendly, you can expect up to 20,000 people to line the streets ready to catch their share of candy and wave at the myriad floats passing by. Note, the event is held rain or shine.

Afterward, you may want to head over to Reilly’s Grill & Bar, reminiscent of a true Boston pub, for a celebratory pint. Starting at 11 a.m., they’ll have live music, Irish food and drink specials all day.

The day before St. Pat’s, the island hosts the annual Hilton Head Island Shamrock 5K. Starting at 8 a.m., runners head down Pope Avenue at Heritage Plaza to North Forest Beach Drive and then return on Lagoon Road, finishing inside Coligny Plaza. After the event, celebrate at New York City Pizza with an awards ceremony and plenty of pizza and drinks.

If you’re considering heading down this spring, St. Patrick’s Day in Hilton Head is not to be missed! Grab the kids, don your green and park your lawn chair on Pope Avenue. Let the fun begin!
