Family Water Sports in Hilton Head

Hilton Head vacation rentalsIt does get a bit toasty here in the summer, so keeping cool is a must and there’s no better place when you’re on an island than the water! If you’re bringing your family on vacation, we’ve got our top suggestions for family water sports in Hilton Head.

Parasailing

Several local companies will take you parasailing in Hilton Head. Get ready to take to the skies and get a view of the island from 800 feet high. Hilton Head Wake Sports, operating out of Palmetto Bay Marina, will take you parasailing on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. They boast the only fully-ballasted v-drive tow boat in the Hilton Head area.

Another option for parasailing is Palmetto Bay Parasail also out of Palmetto Bay Marina. They promise 10-12 minutes of air time and all ages are welcome. They also offer tandem rides if Mom and Son want to fly together. Check out this video to get you excited:

Outside Hilton Head offers a fun way the entire family can ski or tube together. On Family Water Ski and Tube Day, they’ll teach you how to water ski, wakeboard, kneeboard or send you tubing during a three-hour private boat trip. No experience is needed and they’re happy to teach all skills. Sounds like fun!

Live OAC also offers two-hour water skiing trips and instruction, as well as tubing and wakeboarding. They note they are located close to ski areas, so there’s less time going to and from your destination, so water skiing time is similar to other three-hour trips. They also offer “Dolphin Tubing,” where dolphins are likely to swim alongside you while water skiing.

Jet Skiing & Wave Runners

Take out a wave runner with Palmetto Bay Water Sports. Guides will lead you out of Broad Creek into the no wake zone and then enjoy an hour of play time on Calibogue Sound. Guides hang around in case you need anything and to ensure you get back to the dock on time.

Harbour Town Adventures also offers wave runner rentals in Hilton Head. They’ll teach you how to operate it, get you out into Calibogue Sound and set you free for an hour of fun. You can also choose to jet ski through the marshes and creeks for a nature tour. Minors are welcome to ride with adults.

Kayaking & Paddleboarding

Kayaking is a great family activity, as a parent and child can team up in a double kayak. The adult will be able to guide the kayak with some “help” from their child. It’s also very easy to learn and can be a peaceful adventure through the lagoons and creeks of Hilton Head.

Hilton Head Outfitters is a great source for kayak rentals and tours, as they have an 11-mile lagoon that runs behind them in Palmetto Dunes resort. They also offer stand up paddleboard instruction and tours, as well.

Got a teen? Send them on the Teen Stand Up Paddleboard Adventure from Outside Hilton Head. It runs Tuesday and Thursday from 2-4 p.m.

What water sports have you tried with your family? What are you most looking forward to trying?
