The Best of Lowcountry Seafood Showcased at Annual Hilton Head Festival

Hilton Head vacation rentals One of the most wonderful parts of Hilton Head Island — besides the sun, surf and sand – is the seafood. Located right on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, we haul in plenty of seafood every year and cook it up right away so it’s fresh and delicious. So it’s only fitting that we have a festival dedicated to all things seafood!

Coming up March 30-April 5, which falls during many families’ spring breaks this year, is the Hilton Head Island Seafood Fest. It’s a week full of events celebrating the best of Lowcountry seafood.

Everything kicks off at perhaps one of the best known seafood restaurants on Hilton Head Island – Hudson’s Seafood House on the Docks, a longtime island institution. From 3-7 p.m. enjoy either all you can eat for $15 or all you can eat AND drink for $35. The restaurant will serve boiled live Louisiana crawfish and brews from River Dog Brewing Company in Bluffton.

On Monday, you can enjoy a 7-course meal at Lucky Rooster Kitchen + Bar with two of the island’s most innovative chefs. Paired with wines, the duo will present items made from the freshest local seafood. Cost is $80/person.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, see firsthand how local seafood is harvested on a two-hour excursion with instruction on shrimping, oystering, clamming and crabbing. Then, enjoy your fresh catch after it’s cooked for you at Hudson’s. Cost is $35/person.

Also on Wednesday is a 10-course sushi dinner cruise aboard the Tammy Jane with sushi master Di Wang. He will prepare an “Omakase” or “chef’s choice” menu while you enjoy the beauty of Pinckney Island Wildlife Refuge. Cost is $140/person and only 20 spots are available.

The Seafood Fest itself kicks off Friday evening from 5-8 p.m. at Shelter Cove Community Park with entertainment by Deas Guyz, a kids zone and local Hilton Head restaurants serving their best seafood menu items. The fun continues into Saturday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. with live entertainment by the Headliners, a silent auction, crab races and more. Admission for the festival is $6/person with children younger than 10 admitted free.

So bring an empty stomach and a craving for seafood and enjoy this annual Hilton Head festival.
