Top 10 Things to do on Spring Break on Hilton Head Island

Hilton Head spring breakAlthough it seemed like it would never get here, most of us have made it to spring break — finally! Many of you who live in Northern states are ready to get out of Dodge and head south for some warmer air and sunnier skies. If you’re visiting Hilton Head Island for spring break, here are our top 10 picks of activities fit for spring:

1)      Sunbathing – We don’t necessarily mean trying to get a tan or certainly not exposing your skin to the sun without proper protection, but we DO mean soaking up lots of rays. Lather on your SPF and spend some time under the warmth of the sun! How does curling up in a beach chair with a good book sound as the waves crash on the shore? Some spring days on Hilton Head, the wind can make it a bit cool on the beach. If that’s the case, head to the pool, where you’ll be plenty warm under the sun with protection from the wind.

2)      Biking – Hilton Head Island is the ideal place to bike with some 50 miles of paved bike paths. You can get in a workout without breaking too much of a sweat this time of year. Ride your bike along the beach or tour whatever plantation or area your Hilton Head vacation rental is located in.

3)      Fishing – Spring fishing is abundant on Hilton Head. Head out into the Atlantic for an exciting day of shark fishing or troll the local creeks and lagoons for red fish.

4)      Shopping – It’s the perfect time of year to get out doors and go from local boutique to local boutique. Hilton Head offers plentiful shopping at areas like Coligny Plaza and Shelter Cove Harbour, as well as the Tanger Outlets.

5)      Eating – Find a yummy Hilton Head restaurant with an outdoor deck or outdoor seating and enjoy the mild weather while noshing on lunch or dinner. Don’t forget to try our seafood fresh from local waters.

6)      Golf – In the spring you don’t have to worry about bugs and muggy temperatures, making it a great time to play golf. Enjoy being out on the green for as many rounds as you wish. Head over to the Robert Trent Jones course at Palmetto Dunes or the Ocean Course at Sea Pines Plantation if you’re looking for an ocean view.

7)      Tennis – There are so many great places to play tennis on the island. Enjoy a casual family match or join in a local center’s round robin. Many Hilton Head tennis facilities also offer tournaments open to the public.

8)      Boating – You haven’t seen Hilton Head if you haven’t seen it from aboard a boat! Rent your own boat, join in a local charter or enjoy a nature or sunset dinner cruise. The beauty of our marshes and creeks is a must-see, plus you’ll get to spot lots of wildlife like shorebirds and dolphins.

9)      Kayaking or canoeing – Kayaking and canoeing are great ways to get right in the midst of nature on Hilton Head Island. It’s the only way to navigate the small inlets and narrow passages that can get you up close with all manner of flora and fauna.  It’s also a great workout and helps quiet the mind. Many local outfitters rent kayaks and canoes.

10)   Go ziplining – Hilton Head Island recently added a zipline course that takes you over Broad Creek. Ziplining is an adrenaline rush and a very unique way to see Hilton Head from above!
