Public Beaches on Hilton Head Island

Hilton Head vacationIf you’re vacationing on Hilton Head Island, we’re pretty sure you’re going to want to make your way to the beach. If you’re staying at a Hilton Head vacation home inside one of the major resorts at plantations like Palmetto Dunes, Sea Pines or Shipyard, you’ll be able to access their private beaches. If you’re outside the major resorts or just want to check out other Hilton Head beaches, there are several public spots where you can access the beach.

Here is a list of public beach access points on Hilton Head:

Alder Lane, 6 a.m.- 9 p.m. – Located off of South Forest Beach Drive, Alder Lane has designated swimming areas with lifeguards on duty during beach season. It also has matting along the sand for ease of walking or pushing a wheelchair. Other features include metered parking, outdoor showers and restrooms.

Burkes Beach – This beach access is located at the end of Burkes Beach Road and offers metered parking.

Chaplin Community Park – Centrally located off of William Hilton Parkway between Burkes Beach Road and Singleton Beach Road is Chaplin Community Park.  You’ll find tennis courts, basketball courts, a playground, dog park, picnic pavilion, outdoor showers, restrooms and walking/hiking trails.

Coligny Beach Park, 6 a.m.-9 p.m. – Close to Sea Pines, off of Coligny Circle, Coligny Beach Park is a popular spot with outdoor showers, restrooms, beach rentals and even free Wifi. The park also has designated swimming areas with lifeguards on duty during beach season along with free parking.

Driessen Beach Park, 6 a.m.-9 p.m. – At the end of Bradley Beach Road along the Atlantic is Driessen Beach Park, where you will find a boardwalk, picnic pavilion, play ground, grills and outdoors showers. The park offers designated swimming areas with lifeguards on duty during the summer beach season, as well as seasonal beach rentals.

Fish Haul Creek Park –Fish Haul Park is at the end of Beach City Road near Mitchelville Beach Park and offers free parking, an observation deck, walking and hiking trails, a picnic pavilion and restrooms.

Folly Field Beach Park and Islanders Beach Park, 6 a.m.-9 p.m. – Both located off of Folly Field Road along the Atlantic side of the island, these parks have designated swimming areas with lifeguards on duty during beach season. You’ll also find a boardwalk, outdoor showers, restrooms and beach rentals. Note that parking at Islanders Beach Park is reserved for annual beach passes only.

Mitchelville Beach Park 6 a.m.-9 p.m. – Located within historic Mitchelville and also offering free parking, this beach access offers restrooms and matting along the sand for ease of walking to the beach.

The Town of Hilton Head Island considers “beach season” to be April 1 through September 30 each year. Let us know your favorite place to hit the beach on Hilton Head Island!
