Featured Hilton Head Golf Course: Heron Point

Hilton Head golf packagesIf you’re looking for a beautiful Lowcountry golf course to play, look no further than Heron Point located at Sea Pines Plantation. This fantastic course, while not Sea Pines’ oceanfront course, still offers amazing natural views and great golf.

Reimagined by Pete Dye in 2007 and updated again in summer 2014, the par-72 Heron Point Hilton Head golf course was Sea Pines’ former Sea Marsh Golf Course. With the redesign, golfers will find mounds and hillocks to keep players off-balance with dramatic angles and shifting elevations, along with its distinctive green complexes and undulating layout. Keep an eye out for obstacles!

Dye also designed the course with an eye toward making it more player-friendly and combining both long and short holes. Playing 7000 yards from the back tees, there are seven sets of tees on the course, including one set for juniors. Golfers will find a mixture of sand, mulch and limestone surfaces, as well as varying bodies of water.

Golf Magazine ranked Heron Point No. 11 in its Best Courses Near You in South Carolina and Golf Digest selected it as a Top 50 Course for Women. The course is also a designated Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary for its attention to nature.

Be sure to take advantage of Sea Pines’ Plantation Golf Club, a 23,000-square-foot facility with dining at Live Oak restaurant, a large pro shop, practice range and beautiful porches with golf course views. The clubhouse also features the state-of-the-art Golf Learning Center with two hitting bays, a club repair work room, a viewing studio, indoor putting areas and a separate teeing ground for instruction.
